As we all know, the title Eroica and the music is a reference to and is influenced by Napoleon Bonaparte, of whom Beethoven admired for his embodiment of the ideals of the French Revolution. He was obviously disgusted (he can't have liked Nap that much) when he crowned himself Emperor of the French and so Beethoven changed the name to the equivalent of "heroic symphony, composed to celebrate the memory of a great man"

The structure of each movement within the Eroica Symphony moves from Beethovens courage against his deafness, to the misery he felt of it, to the last two which build up into a grand display of creative output.
