This is a contemporary Spanish jazz piece written in 2003. The singer is a Spanish gyspy musician called Diego el Cigala and this piece is played with a Cuban musician called Bebo Valdes who was forced out of living in Cuba and has been living in Finland. This was their first CD done together, they chose to play with each other cos of their contrasting styles in music which gave this piece a very interesting style.
The piece starts with piano and double bass intro descending through a chromatic scale then voice and percussion comes in at 0:08, playing a very jazzy chord pattern
1:05 there is a piano solo with the double bass and percussion playing the chord pattern underneath, the piano solo varies from slow to very fast note patterns involving chords changing the scale along with the chord being played at the time to give it a very interesting sound that flows through different modes.
1:33 the parts change and the double bass plays a solo on top the piano’s chords, at 1:59 there is the repeated phrase to introduce the vocals returning at 2:03. and the beginning of the song is repeated again. At 2:50 the vocalist sings some long high notes to show the songs coming to an end then at 3:01 to make the end even more dramatic the instruments stop playing and the vocalist sings some long vowel sounds using melisma and holds the last note. At 3:13 the last chord is unexpected as it is the relative major of the piece and the few chords before seemed to be leading towards a minor chord, the vocalist holds the relative major root note through all the minor chords until the major chord where his note fits perfectly.

The instrumentation in this piece consists of one percussionists on the djembes and there is a high pitch almost like a high hat sound in the background. There is a pianist and a double bassist, and a very gravely voice.

The double bassist throughout this piece plays the root notes of the chord progression and some times adds in a few fills (1:49) to make the piece that much more interesting, the very gravely vocals add to the style of this piece, he also sings through notes very quickly using interesting modes, the pianist also uses arpeggios (2:32) but also chords (0:43) in some places making a very interesting piano part for the piece. The piano and bass follow each other’s melodies in the important phrases to make them stick out and memorable (0:11, 2:29).
